Hockey Day to appear in Russia

The holiday will be celebrated annually on December 22. Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding document today, July 20.

According to the decree, the holiday is established for the purpose of popularizing this sport.

Hockey is the most popular sport in the Republic of Bashkortostan. A Gagarin Cup winner, HC Salavat Yulaev of Ufa, is one of the strongest teams in the country. The women's hockey team Agidel has won seven Russian championship titles and became a 6-time winner of the WHL Cup this year. The region is also worthily represented by hockey teams Tolpar (MHL) and Toros (VHL).
