Ufa's Salavat Yulaev lost to Sibir in shootout.
The game in Novosibirsk ended in a 3-2 victory for the home team.
Ufa started strongly and opened the scoring in the first period. Team newcomer Maxim Kuznetsov scored a beautiful goal in the 14th minute.
Following that goal, Ufa experienced a significant improvement. In the second period, Salavat Yulaev outshot their opponents twice. In the 38th minute, Jack Rodwald scored his first goal for Salavat Yulaev, doubling his team's lead to 0-2.
In the third period, two Salavat Yulaev players were injured and left the ice. Forward Gleb Kuzmin left the ice after a collision near the boards. Ten minutes later, Denis Yan unsuccessfully blocked an opponent's shot and went to the locker room. At the end of the period, the home team came back and tied the score. The game went into overtime. During overtime, the Yulaev team gained a man advantage and was close to victory. In the final seconds, Jack Rodwald found himself one-on-one with the goalie, but his shot hit the post.
The match was decided in a shootout. Former Salavat Yulaev player Scott Wilson scored the only goal of the shootout.
Salavat Yulaev will play its next game on September 27 at home against Sibir.
