Athlete from Bashkiria sets new Russian record
Athlete Valeria Gareeva from Sterlitamak set a new Russian record in the 100-meter hurdles. The achievement was recorded at the Volga Federal District Athletics Championship in Cheboksary.
According to the Sterlitamak administration, the record had not been broken in 45 years.
"The athlete showed a result of 15.00 sec. The previous record, set in 1980 by Galina Aleksanova in the city of Novocherkassk, stood for 45 years," the city mayor's office said.
Another representative of Bashkiria, Matvey Mirkhazetdinov, came in second in the high jump. Both athletes train at the Sterlitamak Olympic Reserve Sports School.
