Bashkiria swimmer won silver at start of European Championships in Portugal

Swimmer from Bashkiria Andrey Nikolaev won a silver medal in Portugal at the European Open Swimming Championship of the International Paralympic Committee. The competition began in Portugal on April 21 and will last until April 27, the republic’s adaptive sports center reported.

In total, the Russian team won 12 medals in the first days of the tournament - 4 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze. Andrey Nikolaev finished second in the 400-meter freestyle in the S8 class. Ilnur Garipov, Bogdan Mozgovoy, Adelina Razetdinova, and Artur Sayfutdinov also compete for medals.

Over 400 athletes attended the tournament, and 47 Paralympians represented the Russian team. Participation in the European Swimming Championships is a prerequisite for qualification for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The Bashinform news agency reported that swimmers from Bashkiria previously won 20 medals at the Russian Championship for athletes with musculoskeletal system impairment.
