Defender of HC Salavat Yulaev, Honored Master of Sports Evgeny Biryukov, was the first in the KHL history to play his 1000th match. The 37-year-old athlete's milestone was celebrated before the home match of the Salavat Yulaev team with Khabarovsk Amur.
At the solemn ceremony, Evgeniy Biryukov’s teammates presented their comrade with a commemorative jersey and a golden stick, the Bashinform News Agency reported.
“So many emotions, such an exciting day for me and my family. I won’t lie, I was waiting for him, I was nervous before the match,” said Evgeniy Biryukov.
Evgeniy Biryukov began playing in the KHL in the 2008-2009 season for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, for which he played until 2020. Then, the defender moved to the Ufa Salavat Yulaev.
