International Esports Federation returned flag and anthem to Russians
The International Esports Federation (IESF) has lifted the ban on the performance of Russian teams in international competitions under the flag and anthem. This decision was made at a committee meeting the day before, on August 28. As it became known to Bashinform News Agency from the Federation of Computer Sports of Russia, 32 delegates supported lifting the ban, 13 voted against it, and 25 abstained.
Thus, the Russian Esports team will again be able to compete under its flag and name. Also, at the congress, the proposal of the Federation of Computer Sports of Ukraine to suspend the membership of the FCS of Russia in IESF was rejected.
“Certainly, this is great news. In our understanding, sports should unite, and any form of discrimination against athletes based on nationality and other grounds is unacceptable. Therefore, we are glad we could cancel the previous decision, and our team will finally compete under its flag,” said Dmitry Smith, President of the Russian Computer Sports Federation.
