Bashkiria team was second at Summer Paralympic Games

In Sochi, the results of the Summer Paralympic Games were summed up. 46 strongest athletes from Bashkiria took part in the games and won 14 gold, 29 silver, and 28 bronze medals. Among the constituent entities of Russia, Bashkiria took second place in terms of the number of medals. In the medal standings for gold medals, our republic was in 7th place.

Dmitry Lavrov (table tennis), Ilnur Garipov, Bogdan Mozgovoy, Andrei Nikolaev (swimming), and Alexei Labzin (javelin throwing) won medals of the highest standard, fencer Timur Khamatshin brought a silver medal to the national team of the republic, the Bashinform News Agency reported earlier.

In total, about 1.2 thousand athletes from 78 regions of Russia and 10 foreign countries - Belarus, Armenia, Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Serbia, and others took part in the Summer Paralympic Games.

Russian athletes showed worthy results and once again demonstrated the limitlessness of human capabilities at the Summer Paralympic Games in Sochi, said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

“Russian athletes have won more than 1,000 medals in fair and just competition. 4 world records and 10 European records were broken in swimming and athletics. Such victories inspire us to go forward. Keep it up!" - said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

 “We must be together to move the sport forward with common efforts and provide our athletes with platforms for new sporting achievements. The Paralympic Games are designed to form an open society culture and provide equal opportunities for sports and competitive activity,” said Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin.

Recall that Summer Paralympic Games included competitions in nine sports: athletics, swimming, table tennis, archery, taekwondo, fencing, football, checkers, and chess.
