Russian team set national record for number of medals at Winter Olympics
The Russian team won the record number of medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing in their performances at the Winter Games. The Russians have 31 awards, including six gold, 11 silver, and 14 bronze medals. Skiers brought four awards of the highest standard to the Russian team; the other two were won in figure skating.
The previous record was 30 medals at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. After completing those Games, the Russian team had 13 gold, 11 silver, and 9 bronze medals on the evening.
The last time so many awards were won was at the Calgary Olympics in 1988. Then the USSR team took 11 gold and nine silver and bronze medals.
In the ranking, which takes into account the status of the medals received, the Russian team is currently in 8th position with six awards of the highest standard. Norwegian team won first place with 15 gold medals.
