Russian national short track speed skating team dramatically lost bronze medal in 5000 m relay
On February 16, the Russian short track team of Semen Elistratov, Konstantin Ivliev, Pavel Sitnikov, and Denis Hayrapetyan dramatically lost the bronze medal in the 5000m relay final. The fate of the medal was decided by the photo finish, which showed that the Russian four lost only 0.009 seconds to the Italian team.
After the finish, the Ufa native Semen Yelistratov admitted missing the last leg. “I failed to do it. I could not fulfill my potential to the maximum. Fourth place is the worst thing that can happen at the Olympic Games,” the athlete said on air on the MatchTV channel and apologized to his fans and the team.
