Speed skater from Ufa Ruslan Zakharov won silver in the team pursuit race at the Beijing Olympics. In the final race, the Russians lost to the Norwegians. The American team won the bronze medals in the repechage final, ahead of the Dutch team.
Thus, the Russian men's speed skating team became the silver medalist of the Beijing Olympics in the team pursuit.
Ruslan Zakharov, a 34-year-old Ufa resident, competed for Bashkortostan in short track at the Sochi Olympics and won a gold medal in the relay. However, after that, the career of the short track skater began to decline, and he decided to retrain in the adjacent speed skating sport. Zakharov did not go to Pyeongchang.
