Once again, Russian biathletes staged a dramatic race at the Beijing Olympics. Karim Khalili started the men's 4x7.5 km relay. Then Alexander Loginov and Maxim Tsvetkov continued the race. All passed with virtually no penalties.
The fourth and last to complete the relay was the Bashkir biathlete Eduard Latypov. On the prone shooting range, Latypov passed without penalties, but on the stand, he made three misses and went to two penalty loops, losing his chances for gold medals, although the advantage was +59 seconds. The biathlete needed to pick up the pace and allow the ROC team to climb the Olympic podium. As a result, Latypov won the third bronze in Beijing.
The Russians lost to the Norwegians - gold and the French - silver.
