Putin promised to follow performance of Russian Paralympians in Tokyo and support them

Russian President Vladimir Putin held an online meeting with the country's Paralympic team. At it, the head of state promised to follow the performances of athletes, support them, and said that it is important for the media to "cover the progress of the Paralympians as widely and in detail as possible.

Note that Paralympians, more than other athletes, waited for the Games in Tokyo since the Russian team was suspended from participation in the Paralympics in 2016. Vladimir Putin called this an absurd decision and proof of the direct interference of politics in sports.

"Fortunately, the situation is changing. Our delegation in Tokyo is represented by eminent athletes and promising, bright, young athletes. For millions of people around the world, your cast-iron will, your desire to achieve success, in spite of everything, is an incentive of incredible power," the President added, addressing the meeting participants. "The mission of Paralympism is to inspire and delight the world; this is about you," the President of Russia said.

Athletes from the Sakhalin volleyball center in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the Oka training base in the Tula region, the Novogorsk training center, and the Krugloye Lake training center in the Moscow region talked to Vladimir Putin online.

Also, the head of state announced a personal meeting with the Olympians and Paralympians following the Tokyo Games.
