Ruslan Khabibov about World Wrestling Championship in Ufa: "Russia is largest country in terms of participants"

The Minister of Sports of the Republic of Bashkortostan Ruslan Khabibov spoke about the World Wrestling Championship, which will be held in Ufa from August 11 to 23.

"We did not expect such popularity of the championship. We reviewed the World Wrestling Championship registration lists and saw that today teams from 54 countries were registered - 1202 athletes. It is clear that the largest team is from Russia - 100 people. Think about which country can be the second largest? The USA! 70 wrestlers will come from there. Kazakhstanis are the next - 46 athletes. These figures are cool. We have never seen anything like this before."

According to the head of the regional Ministry of Sports, the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov held a meeting on the championship organization and set tasks.

"We will comply with the same requirements as at the Olympic Games. We are ready to do it. The competition will take place from August 11 to 23. The head of the wrestling federation Mikhail Gerazievich, the Olympic champion, will fly to us from Tokyo," Ruslan Khabibov said.

The Minister noted that international competitions in the republic's capital would be held according to the regulations of the Wrestling Federation.

"We have clear measures outlined by the Rospotrebnadzor. There should be PCR tests, or a certificate of vaccination, or a medical exemption", Khabibov said in an interview with BST.
