According to the regional Ministry of Sports, Kandalin had four fights at the tournament and lost one point to a Georgian wrestler in only one event. It is worth noting that Ilya finished all three victorious fights by fall.
In total, the Russian national Greco-Roman wrestling team in Sofia won nine gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
“In the final fight with the Georgian wrestler, Ilya lacked just a little. Our team performed well,” the coach Alexei Zimanov commented on the performance of the national team and his trainee.
