The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) acquitted Bashkir biathlete Olga Vilukhina in an anti-doping rule violation case. Yana Romanova also achieved a positive court decision. However, the former leader of the Russian national team Olga Zaitseva failed to clear her name, according to a court document.
The official document says that in the situation with Vilukhina and Romanova, there was "suspicion of a possible violation of anti-doping rules". None of the charges have been properly proven.
The three biathletes took part in the Sochi Olympics. Vilukhina won the silver medal in the individual competition, which was taken away from her after the accusations by the IOC. Subsequently, she was suspended from the Olympic Games for life, and all her awards were canceled.
In December 2017, Vilukhina and her colleagues filed an appeal with the CAS, where the consideration of the case was suspended until the summer of 2019. Finally, the day before, all the sanctions against Olga and Yana were lifted, and the Sochi results were restored.
"This is a very happy moment! It was this phrase and even more (relay race) that I wanted to hear during this almost three-year fight," Olga Vilukhina posted on social media.
The biathlete from Bashkiria believes that the decision of the Sports Arbitration Court against Olga Zaitseva is "absurd and unfair." Vilukhina promised not to abandon her colleague and "go all the way".
