Ufa race driver refused to kneel in support of Black Lives Matter
Ufa racing driver Daniil Kvyat refused to kneel in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The long-awaited first stage of the Formula 1 World Cup 2020 took place.
According to the Bashkortostan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, before the start of the Grand Prix in the Austrian Spielberg, all the drivers, including Kvyat, went out to the track wearing T-shirts with anti-racist slogans. All racers knelt in support of the Black Lives Matter movement; however, six drivers remained neutral to the sign.
Among those left standing was the Russian racer of the team Daniil Kvyat, Finn Kimi Raikkonen, Italian Antonio Giovinazzi, Spaniard Carlos Sainz, Dutchman Max Verstappen, and Monegasque Charles Leclair.
It is noted that the refusal from kneeling has become a kind of trend, as the “Black Lives Matter” slogan has become politicized. Earlier, the goalkeeper of the American football club Samantha Murphy did not participate in such a campaign.
As for the results, the Finn Valtteri Bottas won the race, Charles Leclair was the second, the third place went to Briton Lando Norris. The native of Ufa, Daniil Kvyat, failed to finish due to a deformed wheel.
