Salavat Yulaev will play in last Green Derby of regular season

On Tuesday, February 25, HC Salavat Yulaev will hold an away match with its most significant rival, Kazan Ak Bars. The confrontation between the two teams, which has long received its own name, “Green Derby”, has become perhaps the most spectacular in the Kontinental Hockey League in terms of determination and beauty of the game.

The upcoming match does not mean a lot for Kazan - the club has already secured first place in the East Conference. On the contrary, the game is very important for Salavat. Now the Ufa team occupies the 6th line of the East standings, but Magnitogorsk Metallurg follows it with only three points behind. In the event of a loss to Ak Bars and the victories of Metallurg in the remaining two matches of the regular season, Ufa may fall to the 7th position.

Depending on the outcome of the remaining matches of the regular season, the Nursultan Barys or the Omsk Avangard temporarily playing in Balashikha near Moscow may become the rival of Salavat Yulaev in the first round of the playoffs. Thus, a playoffs match with any of these teams will be a serious test for the hockey squad of Nikolai Tsulygin.
