Eight Russian cities will host the world volleyball championship in 2022. The International Volleyball Federation made a decision based on inspection visits. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and Ufa are allowed to host the events. Two further host cities will be announced by the FIVB over the next year.
The tournament will run from August 26 to September 11, 2022, and will be divided into four stages: three group and one final event.
Qualifying rounds will be held according to the new system.
The number of participants automatically includes Russia (the host of the tournament) and Poland (the current world champion). Two of the best teams from each continental championship in 2021 will also get berths at the World Cup 2022, the federation official said.
“We are lucky that the host cities have world-class sports arenas and infrastructure that will provide the best conditions for athletes and volleyball fans. I am sure that we will hold one of the best world championships, which will remain in history forever, ”said the President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation Stanislav Shevchenko.
As previously reported by the Bashinform News Agency, a volleyball center will be built in Ufa in the next three years. The project was brought for the discussion with Ufa residents by the Acting Head of Bashkiria Radiy Khabirov.
