On November 28, Ufa was visited by European champion, president of the Russian Basketball Federation Andrei Kirilenko. In the House of the Republic, the Acting Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov met with Andrei Kirilenko. They discussed the development of this sport, the ability of the region to host major basketball events.
According to the president of the Russian Basketball Federation, the republic now has a good opportunity to move to a new level of basketball development.
“Recently, such a good vertical structure of basketball has lined up here: from children’s team to a team of professionals. I would like to have more attention to it from the part of the management. Now there is a good opportunity to reach a new level, make progress. Of course, from our part, we will think about inviting the national team here. For the last couple of years, we have a big tendency to play at home in Russia”, said Andrei Kirilenko.
Andrei Kirilenko examined the Ufa-Arena facility for major competitions, as the Basketball Federation plans to hold matches of the national team in various Russian cities, and Ufa is one of the candidates.
“Such visits are a driver for the development of the sport. When such legendary athletes come, children are very interested in communicating with them”, said Sergey Medvedev, director of the Basketball Federation RB.
European champion held a master class for basketball teams. Two teams arrived to take part in them: girls from Ufa and boys from Blagoveshchensk.
The competitions of the school league involve about 70 thousand children from Bashkiria. The “Ufimets” basketball club also shows good results in the championship of Russia among the teams of the Super League of the second division - the team is currently leading after 8 wins in 10 matches.
