On Monday, June 25, in Samara, the Russian team held a final match of the World Cup - 2018 group stage against Uruguayans. Recall, both teams, having gained the maximum number of points for the previous games, have already reached the 1/8 finals of the tournament.

The match of the Russian and Uruguayan teams ended with a score of 0: 3 in favor of the guests. The score in the 10th minute was opened by Luis Suárez. In the 23rd minute, South Americans doubled the advantage: Diego Laxalt hit from afar, and the ball having ricocheted from Cheryshev's foot flew into the goal of Igor Akinfeev.

An unpleasant moment for the national team of our country happened in the first half: the outfield player Igor Smolnikov picked up a second yellow card in the 35th minute and left the field, after which the Russian team remained outnumbered.

In the second half the players of the Russian team however hard they tried failed to score a goal. Moreover, already at the end of the match, the forward Edinson Cavani scored the third one.

Thus, the South Americans scored nine points and headed the group A. The Russians completed the group stage in the second place. Their rivals in playoffs will be known on the results of the games in Group B, where the national teams of Iran and Portugal, as well as Spain and Morocco, will compete.

Commenting on the defeat the coach of the Russian national team Stanislav Cherchesov noted that the team had not been enough concentrated as it should be at that match and at that championship.
