Bashkiria jumper Danil Lysenko became world champion for first time in his career

UFA, 2 March 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Alfiya Agliullina/. A Bashkiria athlete Danil Lysenko, who performed under the neutral flag, won a gold medal in high jump at the World Athletics Championships, which started in Birmingham, England. The "Birsk Grasshopper", as local media called him, became the world champion for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old athlete conquered a 2.36 m height from the third attempt. The Qatar athlete Mutaz Esa Barshim (2.33) was the second, Mateusz Przybylko (2.29) from Germany won a bronze medal.
Danil shared his impressions of the successful performance with journalists.
"It’s beyond my words how happy I am with my victory at this World Cup. Emotions are simply unreal. I did not think in advance about a victory, I just tried to show here the result I can.
At my last attempt at 2.36, my coach Evgeni Zagorulko came up to me and called me to forget that I was at the World Championships and do everything as during a training session. I asked for silence, thought it all over in my head and jumped. It is very pleasant to win the last attempt", TASS quotes the sportsman.
In August 2017, Danil Lysenko won the World Athletics Championships in London, having won a silver award in high jump.
