Mass sports should be paid more attention - Rustem Khamitov

UFA, 17 February 2017. /Bashinform News Agency/. Bashkortostan should more actively develop mass sport, since there is now a definite bias towards high performance sport in the republic. This was stated by the Head of the Region Rustem Khamitov at the extended board meeting of the Ministry of Youth and Sports RB.

The Head of the Republic said that following the results of the All-Russian contest for the best organization of sports and sports activities Bashkortostan took the 45th place in the country in mass sport development, and the eighth in high performance sport. Rustem Khamitov reminded that in 2016 at the State Council for Sports Development, the Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to increase funding for physical education and mass sport by reducing the costs of regions and companies with state participation in the professional sport.

According to the Head of the Region, dozens of modern sports arenas across the republic could be built for the funds directed to professional sports.

Rustem Khamitov noted that technical sports should also receive comprehensive support.

“It is important for people to develop affordable athletics, skiing, sports tourism, orienteering”, said the Head of the Republic. “Recently I have met with world champions in ultralight aviation. It is very interesting area, just gorgeous in every sense. But we have got quite a few athletes there. Not because it is expensive, but because it lacks correct, rational organization. Our republic is ready to assist and to buy equipment if necessary. But we definitely should return our youth to ultralight aviation.”
