Night of Telescopes to be held at Toratau shihan in Bashkiria
On September 21, the Night of Telescopes will take place at the ethno-complex near the Toratau shihan. The Toratau Geopark is organizing the event in collaboration with the Ufa Planetarium.
Far from city lights, participants can observe the waxing Moon through telescopes.
In the waxing Moon phase, the lunar surface looks most distinct and beautiful. Craters—traces of meteorite bombardments—stand out clearly. Lunar maria, filled with solidified lava, appear as dark spots; majestic mountains border them, and their peaks cast long, jagged shadows.
In the center of the lunar disk in the Ocean of Storms, the huge 96-kilometer-wide Copernicus crater, almost 4 km deep, is visible—the result of a massive meteorite impact 800 million years ago.
