Following an appeal by the only local front-line soldier, Vladimir Kostkin, the road on Lermontov Street in the Kovylkinsky District was repaired. The Great Patriotic War veteran said he had repeatedly raised concerns about the road's condition during mini-parades at his home. With support from the regional head, Artyom Zdunov, they laid new asphalt and installed a sidewalk along a nearly 1-kilometer stretch.
Vladimir Kostkin is an honorary citizen of Mordovia. At 17, he was drafted into the army in 1944, fought in the Far East, and served in Port Arthur until 1951.
