Schoolchildren of Bashkiria will begin to study social studies according to updated curriculum

The subject will henceforth be taught only in grades 9–11.

From September 1, 2026, an updated social studies curriculum will come into effect in all schools in the country. The subject will henceforth be taught only in grades 9–11. The vacated teaching hours have been redistributed in favor of history, according to a statement by the Ministry of Education of Russia.

Unified state textbooks have already been prepared for the ninth and tenth grades. Eleventh graders will switch to the new manuals from September 1, 2027.

As the head of the Ministry of Education, Sergey Kravtsov, emphasized, the subject has become more applied. Students will study the real structure of Russian society, the state, and the economy.

The total volume of the course has been reduced from 272 to 136 hours. 34 hours are allotted in the 9th grade, and 102 hours in the 10th–11th grades. The author team for the textbooks is headed by the President of Russia, Vladimir Medinsky, and the editor-in-chief is the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev. The new course is synchronized with history, literature, and geography.
