In Bashkiria, risk of contracting dangerous infections is growing

In Bashkiria, high tick activity persists.

According to the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor, as of July 30, 2026, 6,292 people have already sought medical attention due to tick bites, about 33.7 percent of whom are children.

Specialists warn: tick-borne viral encephalitis and infectious borreliosis pose the greatest danger. The encephalitis pathogen affects the central nervous system. The first symptoms manifest acutely — 1–30 days after the bite. Among the main signs are a temperature increase to 38–39 °C, severe headaches and muscle pain, and nausea and vomiting are possible.

Infection occurs during bloodsucking by an infected tick. This most often happens when visiting forests. However, ticks can be brought into the house by pets, birds, or by people themselves on clothing and plants.

According to the results of studies by the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Republic of Bashkortostan, out of 4,922 ticks removed from people, 0.5% were infected with the tick-borne encephalitis virus, and 24.9% with infectious borreliosis pathogens.

Doctors remind: if a tick attachment is discovered, it is necessary to seek medical help as soon as possible. A removed tick can be examined in specialized laboratories in Bashkiria.
