Residents of Bashkortostan will be able to see meteor shower

The June Bootids are active from June 22 to July 2.

The best display of the shower this year is expected after nightfall on June 27, when it will be possible to see the most meteors. Meanwhile, bright June nights are not very favorable for meteor observation. Furthermore, the sky will be illuminated by an almost full Moon: 95% of the lunar disk will be illuminated by the Sun. The waxing Moon will be visible from the evening onwards, will set only at two o'clock in the morning, and will allow only the brightest meteors to be seen.

As noted by the Ufa City Planetarium, the June Bootids are not a typical shower and behave unpredictably. Most often, their activity is very low: 1-2 meteors per hour, but several times bursts of activity were observed – up to 100 meteors per hour – in 1916, 1921, and 1927. Between 1928 and 1997, the shower did not manifest itself, and then in 1998, there was suddenly a strong burst of activity – 100 meteors per hour. Significant activity was also observed in 2004, up to 50 meteors per hour.

As observers note, the June Bootids are slow, white meteors with yellowish trails, mostly short. Some of them explode or produce a strong flash of light at the end of their flight.
