In the city of Salavat, a 65-year-old pensioner handed over more than 4 million rubles to couriers after believing fake employees of government agencies.
As the victim told the police, in April, people posing as employees of the Pension Fund, the MFC, the "Gosuslugi" portal, and law enforcement agencies began calling and messaging her in a messenger app.
They promised her a pension recalculation, threatened her with a criminal case for transferring money to unfriendly countries, and demanded that she declare her savings and protect them from scammers. In this way, they convinced her to withdraw all her savings. The resident of Salavat withdrew 3 million rubles from her bank accounts and sold her foreign car. She handed all the money to the couriers.
When the scammers stopped responding, the woman realized she had been deceived and contacted the police. A criminal case has been initiated under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud").
