Blue Moon has risen in sky over Ufa
In the sky over Ufa and the Republic of Bashkortostan, an unusual phenomenon is being observed – a Blue Moon. This event is unique because it is the only Blue Moon of 2026.
This is already the second full Moon in May (the first was on May 1). The full Moon occurred on May 31 at 11:47 Moscow time, and on June 1 at 07:34, the Moon will reach apogee (the point in its orbit farthest from Earth); the satellite will be more than 405 thousand kilometers from our planet.
The second full Moon in a month is the smallest full Moon of the year (micromoon). Despite the romantic name, the Moon does not actually turn blue — it looks the same as it does during any other full moon. Scientists call the second full Moon within a single calendar month a Blue Moon. Two full moons in one month is a rare astronomical phenomenon that occurs due to the difference between the duration of the lunar cycle and the calendar month.
The next calendar Blue Moon will occur on December 31, 2028.
