In Bashkiria, taxi driver saved pensioner from phone scammers

In Neftekamsk, a taxi driver showed vigilance and did not let scammers deceive an 84-year-old pensioner.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the older woman received a phone call. A stranger was crying into the receiver, introduced herself as her daughter, and said that she had been in an accident and urgently needed money for surgery. To help, the grandmother was supposed to pack a bag with her belongings and give all her cash savings to the supposed taxi driver who would come for the parcel.

The scammers also contacted the taxi driver. They promised him 7 thousand rubles if he took the bag to Ufa. The driver arrived at the grandmother's house at night. When he saw the agitated older woman constantly talking to someone on the phone and following instructions, he suspected something was wrong and went to the police.

Law enforcement officers headed to the place where the scammers were supposed to collect the money. There, they detained the person who was waiting for the parcel. He turned out to be a 15-year-old.

Currently, employees of the local investigative committee are working with him. The police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
