Residents of Republic of Bashkortostan will be able to admire meeting of Venus with young Moon

On May 18, as soon as it gets dark, you need to look where the Sun disappeared below the horizon an hour ago: to the northwest.

Not so high above the horizon, the brightest "star" will be shining — this is Venus. And to its right, a very thin lunar crescent will be visible. Only two days have passed since the new moon, and only 5.5% of the lunar disk will be illuminated by the Sun. And high above the horizon, in the west (to the left of Venus), another bright "star" will be visible in the constellation Gemini — Jupiter.

"So, if the sky is clear, do not miss the opportunity to admire the meeting of Venus with the young Moon. And pay attention to the earthshine of the Moon — that grayish part of the lunar disk that is not illuminated by the Sun, but glows faintly, illuminated by the Earth," reported the Ufa City Planetarium.

The celestial bodies will be visible for almost three hours after sunset. Immediately after midnight, they will set below the horizon: the Moon at 00:10, and Venus 10 minutes later.

The next evening, the young crescent moon will "run away" from Venus and, having become twice as thick, will be visible above it, positioned approximately midway between Jupiter and Venus.
