For only the second time in history, astronomers have discovered a nearby stellar system, WISPIT 2 (at a distance of 433 light-years from Earth), within which three new planets are forming. This is reported by TASS, citing data from the European Southern Observatory (Chile). One of the future planets will be comparable in size to Saturn.
A year ago, astronomers discovered the birth of a very large planet in the WISPIT 2 system, five times Jupiter's mass. Scientists expect that observing the formation of planets will help reveal the history of the Solar System.
