Five to ten X-class flares are predicted by scientists at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy and Heliophysical Instrumentation of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to the head of the laboratory, Sergey Bogachev, the highest level of flares will be observed through 2028, TASS reports.
Solar flares are classified by X-ray power into five main classes: A, B, C, M, and X. Each class is 10 times more powerful than the previous one. The highest class can cause magnetic storms, which in turn affect satellite communications, navigation, and power systems. Therefore, scientists closely monitor space weather and improve forecasting methods.
