At 15:40 Moscow time, the level was measured at X1.04.
This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Activity of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The peak occurred at 15:33 Moscow time. There is a high probability of major new events in the near future, scientists note.
Four minutes later, there were signs of a mass ejection after the flare. However, the possibility of an impact on Earth at present is considered minimal—the active region is located at an angle of approximately 50° from the Sun–Earth line. Impacts on the planet from such an angle are possible only for very large ejections.
There will be an update later, scientists report. The explosive center will be in the zone of direct impact on Earth from Tuesday, February 3, through Saturday, February 7.
