This caused traffic disruptions in the area.
Early in the morning on January 27, traffic lights at the busy, hazardous intersection of Aiskaya and Kirova streets in Ufa malfunctioned, creating a dangerous situation on the road. As Ilya Kryukov, head of the Republic's Traffic Management Center, told Bashinform, the failure was caused by extremely cold weather.
"The control box freezes. Specialists were on site, and the traffic lights were restored by 8 a.m., but by around 10 a.m., they failed again. Measures are currently being taken to get the system operating properly. Our staff are on site, and traffic police officers are also monitoring road safety at the intersection," Kryukov said.
