The storm was caused by the impact of a plasma cloud from the first highest-class X solar flare of 2026.
According to officially confirmed data from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory (XRAS), a planetary geomagnetic storm at level G4.33 is currently underway on Earth, which is close to the maximum G5 level. Scientists do not rule out that the storm could intensify to the highest level, which has been observed only once over the past 20 years, in May 2024.
"The only solar wind parameter that can currently be reliably measured — the magnetic field intensity — is showing values close to historical records," the laboratory noted.
