Shortest daylight days of year have begun in Bashkortostan

The longest night is expected on December 21.

On Sunday, December 21, at 2:19 p.m. Ufa time, the winter solstice will occur. The shortest days in the region began on December 18 and will last until December 24. During this period, the night will last almost 17 hours, while daylight will be only about seven hours.

"On the days of the solstice, the Sun reaches its lowest altitude above the horizon at noon — in Ufa it is 11°47' (on the day of the summer solstice, its altitude above the horizon is 58°39'). For several days before and after December 21, the Sun's noon altitude changes very little, and the Sun rises and sets at the same time each day. In the same place — this is where the term 'solstice' comes from," representatives of the Ufa Planetarium explained.

Specialists noted that after December 24, the Sun will rise higher above the horizon, and by New Year's Eve, the nights will be 6 minutes shorter.
