Residents of Bashkortostan warned about deceptive nature of early ice
Not all bodies of water have developed stable ice yet, and going out onto them can be dangerous.
Staff of Bashkiria National Park warn that the ice on the Nugush Reservoir has not yet reached sufficient strength, and access to its surface is strictly prohibited.
Even if the ice appears solid, this can be misleading — there may be weak spots and open water hidden under the snow. Ice is especially unreliable near shorelines, and in areas with currents, residents are reminded.
According to the Emergencies Ministry regulations, ice thickness should be at least 10 cm for a single pedestrian and at least 30 cm for vehicle traffic.
