Municipal services in Ufa have started harvesting ice for New Year festive sites, the city administration's press service reported.
Ice harvesting is not a quick process and often takes more than a week. Workers need to clear snow from a frozen body of water, mark it into equal sections, cut the ice, lift it out of the water, load it onto trucks, and deliver it to designated locations.
Ice blocks are usually cut into rectangles measuring one by two meters. Ice harvesting has already begun in Ufa's Leninsky District, at Dolgoye Lake.
Other districts of the Bashkir capital will begin this work in the near future, the municipality added.
