Earth's geomagnetic field may soon experience strong disturbances again, according to data from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory. A large active region has formed on the Sun, and it is expected to become the third-largest and most powerful this year. Astronomers note that the size of active areas generally correlates well with their flare activity.
For now, this region is on the "far" side, and another event is more relevant for Earth — a sizable and active region located directly opposite it, which will soon show what it is capable of.
