New swans spotted in Bashkiria

Residents of the village of Kutanovo in the Burzyansky district captured several swans on the Belaya River, the Bashkiria National Park reported.

These beautiful, graceful birds migrate south when bodies of water begin to freeze and finding food becomes difficult. This usually happens at the end of November.

"Swans may stay for the winter if they find open water areas, for example, below a reservoir dam. Their feathers are coated with oil produced by the uropygial gland, which protects them from freezing temperatures," specialists at the Bashkiria National Park explained.
