There are currently over 930,000 senior citizens in Bashkortostan.
The average life expectancy in the region has exceeded 73 years. There are 17,367 centenarians aged 90 and older, and 294 centenarians aged 100 and older.
Social support measures cover approximately 512,000 senior citizens.
At the initiative of the Head of the Republic, Radiy Khabirov, the "Bashkir Longevity" project was launched in October 2020. This project comprises a series of activities designed to maintain health, promote an active, healthy, and positive lifestyle, and engage senior citizens in socially beneficial activities.
The number of project participants is growing annually. Last year alone, over 470,000 people participated, and this year, the number is expected to exceed 400,000. The project includes several key areas that speak for themselves: "Tourism," "Health," "Physical Education," "Education," "Volunteering and Mentoring," and "Culture and Creativity."
Bashkortostan has five state-run nursing homes for the elderly and disabled: in Ufa, Dyurtyuli, Oktyabrsky, Iglinsky, and Arkhangelsky districts; five branches in four autonomous non-profit organizations; and three semi-inpatient day care centers: at the Imenlek Republican Gerontology Center, at the Salavat Nursing Home, and at the Starobaishsky Nursing Home.
According to the results of the first nine months, approximately 35,000 elderly citizens are receiving social services at home. This year, 10 foster families were created for 12 grandparents. A total of 377 older adults have been placed with families in the Republic.
