The Bashkir Cultural Heritage Authority has refuted media reports claiming that the mound on which the Salavat Yulaev monument stands in Ufa would be removed during restoration works.
According to the agency, the land under the pedestal will only be reinforced through the cementing of piles and the waterproofing of the foundation. Additionally, an automatic lawn irrigation system will be installed.
"The mound and the monument will remain at the same elevation. Currently, granite slabs are being dismantled at the site. These slabs are a protected part of the monument and will be restored to match the original appearance exactly. The dismantling is necessary for a detailed assessment of the strength of the concrete structure beneath the stylobate," the agency stated.
