Surgeons at the Kuvatov Republican Clinical Hospital successfully performed two kidney transplant operations. The procedures lasted over six hours in total. Both patients are currently in stable condition and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, according to the Ministry of Health of Bashkiria.
The transplant department at Kuvatov Hospital is the only one in the republic where kidney and liver transplants are performed. For over 10 years, it has consistently ranked among the top six medical centers in Russia for both the number and success rate of transplant surgeries. So far this year, the hospital has already carried out 17 kidney transplants and 7 liver transplants.
Kidney transplantation is considered one of the most complex surgical procedures. It involves carefully connecting the donor organ’s blood vessels and urinary tract. The outcome largely depends on the surgeon’s experience, tissue compatibility, and proper immunosuppressive therapy. After surgery, patients are prescribed lifelong immunosuppressants to prevent rejection of the transplanted organ. Treatment begins during the operation and continues throughout the patient’s life.
Earlier, Bashinform reported that the neuro-oncology department of the regional cancer center used intraoperative neuromonitoring technology for the first time to remove a large brain tumor.
