Residents of Mezhgorye in Bashkiria alarmed by bear sightings

The residents of Mezhgorye in Bashkiria are experiencing a continued surge in bear sightings. The animals have been regularly appearing on Parkovaya Street. Recently, they were spotted in a resident’s garden, where they trampled and ate the crops. Today, the same group of bears was seen near a local cafeteria.

Residents are increasingly concerned for their safety and that of their families.

The city administration told Bashinform that a working meeting was held to address the issue of wild animals entering the city. It was decided that staff from the South Ural Nature Reserve, along with police and the National Guard, will continue daily patrols in areas where bear sightings are most frequent. The municipality is also seeking federal support.

“We have submitted three official requests to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, asking for assistance in regulating the bear population in the nature reserve or helping to disperse the animals,” officials said.

Residents who encounter bears in the city are urged to immediately report sightings to the unified emergency dispatch service at 112.

Earlier, Bashinform reported that bears, wolves, and other wild animals have been entering populated areas in search of food. In Mezhgorye, these encounters are more frequent due to the city’s proximity to the South Ural Nature Reserve. Locals are advised to exercise caution and avoid approaching wild animals if encountered.
