Bashkiria to host third GeoChallenge geological championship in September

The third International GeoChallenge Geological Championship will be held in Bashkiria in September 2025. It will host teams from 17 regions of Russia and 14 countries worldwide – a total of 250 participants.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the XXVIII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum with Oleg Kazanov, the head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra), Radiy Khabirov noted that Bashkortostan is ready to become a permanent venue for the international geological championship, GeoChallenge. The head of the region proposed holding the grand opening of the event at the Interuniversity Student Campus in Ufa.

Following the meeting, the Head of the Republic informed journalists about the other issues discussed.

“The key issue is that the moratorium imposed on issuing licenses for placer gold mining is not temporary. This issue needs to be addressed differently. Therefore, we agreed with the head of Rosnedra that he would come to the republic in July and hold a specialized meeting. The most important thing is that we were heard - we explained that the previous gold mining experience was carried out in a barbaric manner. We also discussed the need for geological exploration to be carried out in the republic on a regular basis. This is a federal story, federal funding. And we practically agreed that Bashkortostan will become the main venue for the regular holding of the GeoChallenge Olympiad. This is very great, because the republic has great competencies in the field of civilized geological exploration and subsoil development," said Radiy Khabirov.
