Bashkir scientists have created molecule for myocardial infarction treatment

Thanks to the unique development of Bashkir scientists, doctors can restore heart function after a myocardial infarction.

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bashkiria reports that scientists from the Bashkir State Medical University and Hangzhou Pedagogical University created a molecule to treat heart attacks in accordance with the goals of the national project "Youth and Children."

It is specified that the action of this molecule is based on the reduction of Ubiquitin (protein) in the area of the heart muscle that has temporarily lost the ability to contract due to a lack of oxygen. The new compound has passed the first tests and has proven its effectiveness. Clinical trials are planned shortly, after which the drug will begin to be used in medical practice, and doctors will be able to maintain the viability of heart tissue and restore its functions.

"Ubiquitin is a protein that plays an important role in our body, helping to get rid of damaged cells. In myocardial ischemia, heart cells are damaged when the heart muscle does not receive enough oxygen due to impaired blood supply. By identifying damaged cells, Ubiquitin plays a key role in regulating programmed cell death (apoptosis) in such conditions,” said the project manager, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alexander Samorodov.

The national project “Youth and Children” aims to create opportunities to develop talents and self-realize young people.
