A Scottish calf, a domestic donkey foal, a Caspian purple gallinule chick, and a horned raven chick were recently born at one of the zoos in Nizhny Novgorod, as reported by pravda-nn.ru.
According to zoo staff, the birth of the horned raven chick was considered a true miracle, as this bird species rarely reproduces in captivity. When the female laid an egg, it was carefully placed in an incubator where specific temperature and humidity levels were artificially maintained.
"Throughout the long history of Russian zoos, such cases are few. Moreover, this is the first offspring for this particular pair! The chick is currently being kept separately from its parents and is being hand-fed by ornithologists," commented the zoo's general director.
The baby donkey, born to Ia and Laima, is black in color and actively roams the enclosure, eating hay, and entertaining visitors. In contrast, the Scottish calf and the Caspian purple gallinule chick prefer to stay close to their mothers.
Earlier, a panda at the Moscow Zoo was gifted tulips.
