Bashkiria resident rescues drowning bear cub

A dramatic wildlife rescue unfolded recently at the Yumaguzinskoye Reservoir in Bashkiria, when a bear cub found itself in danger while crossing the water with its mother. According to the Ministry of Ecology of Bashkiria, the incident occurred as the bears attempted to swim across the reservoir.

At some point during the crossing, the cub became exhausted and clung to a floating tree trunk, unsure of what to do next. The mother bear had already reached the shore and could only watch helplessly from a distance as her cub struggled in the water.

Fortunately, help was close by. Rustam Bulatov, a resident of the village of Kutushevo in the Meleuzovsky District, happened to be sailing along the reservoir in a small boat at the time. Noticing the distressed animal, he steered toward the log the cub was clinging to and gently began guiding it toward the shore.

Remarkably, the cub remained calm and did not resist the rescue, seemingly aware that it was in safe hands. The operation ended safely, and the bear cub made it back to land.

Earlier, Bashinform also reported another touching wildlife story from the region—a Bashkir farmer offering shelter to a maral (a type of red deer).
