Summer 2025 could be the hottest in history since the entire current year could rank among the top five warmest. The scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, stated this possibility in an interview with TASS.
As the expert noted, this is due to recent years' increasingly warmer temperatures caused by an increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases. According to him, this process has not yet been stabilized. In addition, the ocean temperature remains very high, and its active layer (in contact with the atmosphere) has warmed up well.
“This also affects the state of the atmosphere: the heat transferred from the oceans contributes to an increase in air temperature,” Vilfand explained.
Only in the second half of the year will it be possible to finally say what place 2025 will take among the warmest years.
